What’s the difference between an invasive, non-native, and noxious weed? What makes an invasive plant invasive? Learn about common and not-so common non-native plants in Gresham, and how you can help prevent them from spreading.
Free workshop. No RSVP required
Help us fight off Gresham’s weedy invaders by participating as a Weed Watcher in our Early Detection, Rapid Response Program. By familiarizing yourself with problem weeds in our area, you can help us stop these plants in their tracks.

You're invited to attend a free spring bird class and learn to identify year-round residents arriving in our yards and parks.
Spring brings thousands of migrating birds to our region; some stay to nest and others pass through. Get ready for great spring birding action with this crash course in identifying spring migrants and summer breeders.
Metro naturalist James Davis will show slides, play some easy bird songs and simplify what seems like a confusing variety of birds to many beginners.

As winter draws near, many residents, both homeowners and renters, will be facing a chilly indoors, coupled with higher energy bills. As utility customers and taxpayers, they are financially supporting a variety of energy efficiency programs that could assist them, and yet they may be unaware of these opportunities. The City of Gresham is offering free energy efficiency information fairs, to raise awareness in the community about the benefits of energy conservation and the opportunities to increase energy efficiency in one's home. Regardless of whether one owns or rents, lives in a single family home, mobile home, apartment or condominium, there are no cost, low cost and advanced energy efficiency opportunities and incentives available.
How to Avoid Becoming the Victim of a Crime: Dec 03, 2012 6-8PM

The Gresham Police Department has teamed up with the City’s Risk Management Department to offer a free, two-hour training session to the public on personal safety and how to avoid becoming the victim of a crime. Gresham police officers will discuss basic safety measures everyone can take to avoid becoming the victim of a crime, including how to spot pre-attack indicators.
The training is open to the public, but all attendees must be 16 years of age or older. 16- and 17-year-olds must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Children ages 15 and younger are not allowed.
Registration is required, and space is limited to the first 130 registrants. You must register by Nov 30 at 4:30PM.

Free solar workshop, Solar Gresham project, Gresham Public Library: Jun 5, 2012 6PM-7:30PM

Free Solar Workshop
Solar Gresham is hosting free solar workshops at the Gresham Public Library in historic downtown. Led by the nonprofit Solar Oregon, the workshops will cover the basic technology, benefits and cost of solar. Imagine Energy will be available to answer questions about installation and products. Umpqua Bank will also be on hand to share information on financing opportunities.
RSVP below. The workshops provide a great opportunity to learn more about solar, whether you’re interested in having it installed at your home or just wanting to learn more about this form of renewable energy.
Solar Gresham is a new program offered through July 31. It offers homeowners solar at up to 80% or more off the cost.

This free workshop explores the role rain gardens can play in urban stream restoration, while adding beautiful landscaping to your yard. Participants will learn how to site, plan and build a rain garden. Registration is required and space is limited.
