Enjoy The Willamette River

This approximately 3.5-mile hike covers both sides of the Willamette River between the Hawthorne and Burnside bridges. A short detour from the Hawthorne Bridge will take us to OMSI and the New Oregon Rail Heritage Center, where we will see four immense railroad locomotives and the railroad history of Portland and the Northwest. Admission to the Rail Museum is free; however, donations are appreciated.

  • Elevation gain: 250 feet

After the walk we will stop at a local restaurant for lunch. Bring rain gear, warm clothing, water and a snack to eat on the hike. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended.

A Great Nature Walk!

This three-mile walk begins from the Nature Park Interpretive Center in Beaverton. We will follow paved and natural trails that feature evergreen and deciduous forests, creeks, wetlands, ponds and meadows. Be on the lookout for deer, owls and other birds. Hiking boots or other trail shoes are recommended in case of any muddy conditions.

Following our walk, we will drive a short distance to Bugatti’s Restaurant at Cedar Hill Crossing for lunch.

Crisp Winter Adventure

To start this four-mile hike, we’ll drive the half mile or so to Gresham's Main City Park. We’ll park and walk the Springwater Trail to Regner Road and then head up through the Dawncrest neighborhood to connect with the Saddle Trail over Gresham Butte. Back at Main City Park, we’ll take a quick walk through the newly renovated Tsuru Japanese Garden.

  • Elevation Gain: About 575 feet
  • Suggested donation per hiker: Free

Going over the Butte is relatively steep in places and can be muddy, so dress accordingly. Because of the probability of muddy conditions, hiking boots are recommended. After this loop hike, we’ll have lunch at Bistro 214 in old town Gresham.

We'll travel by MAX to Pioneer Place where we will disembark and gather in the lower lobby. From there we’ll begin our three-mile walk through seven of the newest and oldest hotel lobbies in downtown Portland. You'll see the sophisticated Nines Luxury Hotel first, followed by Hotel Monaco, which is rated in the top 500 hotels in the world by Travel & Leisure magazine. We’ll then visit four hotel lobbies on Broadway before arriving at the Sentinel. Built in 1909, the Sentinel is considered one of the finest examples of Italian Renaissance architecture in the nation. We will have lunch at Jake’s Grill at the Sentinel.

The three-mile out-and-back trail starts at the Clear Lake Sno-Park and goes down a groomed gentle grade to the lake shore. Drivers are needed who are equipped and willing to drive in the snow. Sno-Park permits are required for drivers’ cars. We will stop in Government Camp for those who need to rent snowshoes. Pack a snack to eat along the trail. We will eat a late lunch at the Still Creek Inn in Rhododendron.

This four-mile hike begins at an arch bridge over Trout Creek in the Gifford Pinchot Forest, just northwest of Carson, Wash. We will head uphill on Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) #2000 through moss-draped trees to a valley viewpoint and back to the creek. Then we will travel east for 1.5 miles on PCT #2000 to the Whistle Punk trailhead to complete a 1.5-mile loop with logging camp displays. At the far point of the loop is a wooden observation deck overlooking a wetland.

  • Round-trip travel: 104 miles
  • Difficulty: Easy/moderate
  • Elevation gain: 525 feet
  • Suggested donation per hiker: $11
    (includes rider's share for Bridge of the Gods toll)

Pack a lunch to eat after the hike in a covered picnic area. Hiking boots and poles are recommended, especially for the first mile. We will park one car at the Whistle Punk trailhead and all other cars at the Trout Creek bridge. A Northwest Forest Pass is required at the Whistle Punk trailhead but not at the Trout Creek bridge.

Protect Your Health
Legacy Health is offering FREE flu shots to people age six months and older on Tuesday, November 11, 2014, Veterans Day. Shots will be available on all five hospital campuses.

People age 12 and older may also receive a free tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis vaccination. Pertussis commonly referred to as whooping cough, is very contagious. County health departments declared pertussis outbreaks in Oregon and Washington in 2012. Eighty three percent of people who die from pertussis in the U.S. are less than three months old and often catch it from adult family members.

This three-mile walk begins in Bethany Village and continues to the well-manicured Skycrest Parkway and Rainier Terrace neighborhoods. From there, we will enter a path to Hansen Ridge Park for a short break. After our break we will meander through Bethany Meadows before checking out the golf course views in Claremont. After our walk we will have lunch at Biscuit's Cafe in the Village.
