Gresham is updating its rules for food and beverage carts (coffee carts, mobile food vendors, taco trucks) and temporary uses (farmers' markets, Christmas tree lots, fruit and veggie stands, and similar uses).
The City Council will consider changes to rules, processes, fees and inspections at its 6 p.m. Oct. 1 meeting. Public comments are welcome.
Changes include:
- Sorting uses into four categories: Temporary, Intermittent, Interim and Food and Beverage Carts
- New definitions.
- Clarify where uses are permitted.
- Establish safety rules, including for lighting, site ingress and egress, pedestrian hazards, fire separation and rules for drive-throughs.
- Set compatibility rules, including for setbacks, increased distance from residential uses, adequate parking and bathrooms for food service uses.
- Provide appearance rules, including for signage; screening; maintenance; quality of shelter for customers; and not allowing food carts in motorized vehicles if they are to remain on a site for more than four hours.

Wonders of the Fall Sky
There are three shows at this evening's show, with start times at 6:00PM, 7:15PM and 8:30PM.
The Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) Planetarium opens the year with more great public shows, a move to a new night and coming soon, a state-of-the-art projection system.
In “Wonders of the Fall Sky,” planetarium director Pat Hanrahan will show visitors how to locate the planets, nebulae, galaxies, star clusters and a current star nova in the night sky.
Each show is presented under a realistic representation of the night sky, featuring the latest galactic, stellar and planetary images.
Visitors are encouraged to ask questions during each program. Children are welcome to attend.

Come tour Historic Downtown Gresham, and learn about its historic buildings and homes, historic graves and trees, some historic local figures, and about the shops that used to line Main Ave. Tours weave throughout Historic Downtown Gresham, are fast paced, and will cover around a mile of mostly flat level ground.
Tours leave at 11:00AM sharp, rain or shine, and are free. Donations are always accepted and much appreciated. Parking is available in the lot behind the museum.

The full moon will dip into Earth's shadow tonight October 18th, producing a lunar eclipse that can be seen by keen observers.
With tonights perfect weather, skywatchers will get the chance to observe part of the southern portion of the moon passing into Earth's penumbra — the planet's outer shadow.
The shading will be subtle, but during the penumbral lunar eclipse, the moon will be partially in shadow for about four hours with the time of deepest eclipse occurring at 7:50PM EDT (4:50PM PT). At that moment, the Earth's outer shadow will cover 76.5 percent of the lunar disk.

The Zimmerman Heritage Farm is a unique cultural education and recreational resource that is being created for the benefit of the public on a 5.98-acre historic site in Gresham, Oregon.
