Round-trip travel: 38 miles
Distance: 5 miles
Difficulty: Moderate
Elevation gain: 480 feet
Suggested donation per rider: $4 (plus share of $5 parking fee)
We will start the hike close to the Clackamas River by the fish hatchery that raises Steelhead and Spring Chinook. We'll continue on an old logging road up through the forest to a view point area that overlooks the Clackamas River. From the view point we'll cross an off-leash dog area to a bat-viewing area, before heading down through the forest to the Rivermill Reservoir. We will continue along the river back to the parking area. Bring a sack lunch, water and snacks. Sturdy hiking shoes are recommended. If it has been rainy, hiking poles might be helpful in spots.
Trail conditions: Wide trails (easy for two to walk side-by-side) and old logging road in some areas. Dirt with gravel in some areas, can be muddy. The trail is a multi-use trail also used by mountain bikes and horses. Elevation gain is a fairly steep upgrade, then levels off for a while before going down. Grade going down seems a little more gradual than the grade going up.
