Friends of Nadaka Unites a Gresham Neighborhood to Create a Park
|
Complete with bird walks, play spaces, and a community garden—and soon Gresham’s first handicapped-accessible swing. |
Source: Portland Monthly Magazine (November 2016)
One spring morning in 2007, Lee Dayfield took her dog for a walk. As she passed an empty field, she saw a sign that would forever change her life. It read “for sale.”
The desolate plot of grass sat next to 10 acres ringed by a chain-link fence and barbed wire. Where others may have seen a $900,000 meadow, Dayfield saw a two-acre opportunity: a nature-based play area for the Gresham neighborhood’s children, many of them Native American.

Safer Walking & Biking
When: Sat, Oct 15, 2016 10AM-2PM |
10:00 am - 12:00 pm: Walk and Talk
The City wants to understand how getting around town can help you stay active, fit and healthy. Join us for a 2.2-mile walk from Gresham's Civic Center on Eastman Parkway to the new Rockwood Rising site on 187th and Stark Street. Along the walk, we want to hear from you about what street improvements would make walking and biking easier, safer and more enjoyable in Gresham. Slip on your walking shoes and join us.
Families, strollers and mobile chairs are welcome.
Language translation other than English available upon request; call 971-231-7426 to schedule.
12:00 - 2:00 pm: Eat
At the Rockwood Rising site, come out to see what plans the Gresham Redevelopment Commission has been cooking up for a new Rockwood town center. Sample free foods from many different cultural cuisines from local entrepreneurs and food vendors. Learn what types of programs and services could be located there, and how you and your family can give input about what you'd like to see there.
