Growing Communities
Friends of Trees has been planting trees in communities for 20 years, helping to reduce air pollution and stormwater runoff, as well as beautifying our neighborhoods.
New Trees for Neighborhoods!
This winter, Friends of Trees is coming to Gresham and conducting a tree planting in the Wilkes East and Kelly Creek neighborhoods. Get neighborhoods map!
In the Wilkes East Neighborhood 4 new trees will be planted in Nadaka Nature Park, and additional trees will be planted at the south end of Columbia View Park. The trees for Nadaka Nature Park will be purchased thru a Metro Nature in Neighborhood grant obtained by Wilkes East Neighborhood Association and Friends of Nadaka. Volunteers will be needed at both Nadaka and Columbia View for these plantings.

Event Info
Be prepared to get a little dirty and to have fun by supporting and volunteering with Friends of Nadaka and Wilkes East Neighborhood Association in their efforts to restore this natural area by removing invasive underbrush and ivy. We will also be planting 12 new small trees, 65 shrubs and 150 herbs.
UPDATE (11-11-2009) : Join us, the Concordia University Basketball Team, H.B. Lee Middle School Leadership students, and your fellow neighbors for this special event with the Columbia Slough Watershed Council. Refreshments needed: Persons interested in donating baked goods or refreshments for this event are urged to contact leedayfield@wilkeseastna.org
Rain or Shine! Come dressed for weather and help improve Nadaka Nature Park. Bring working gloves & a water bottle if you have them. Volunteer as long as you can.
Coffee, juice, water & refreshments provided by Wilkes East Neighborhood.
No pre-registration required. Volunteers younger than 18 will need a signed waiver (available at the event).

Highlights include: election of officers, Nadaka Nature Park improvements, and special guest speakers: John McClellan of Owens Corning discussing the new Gresham Foam Insulation Facility opening July 2009; Jonathan David, Gresham Transportation Dept talking about the NE Halsey St, & 181st Ave improvements, and; Jerry Gerspach, Noise Abatement Specialist, Port of Portland discussing the PDX airport runway construction and the increased noise over the Wilkes East neighborhood.

On Sunday, February 15th from 9:00AM to 12:00PM the Wilkes East Neighborhood Association and Friends of Nadaka will be holding a Storm Debris Cleanup at Nadaka Park. Come on by and give us a hand! Dress warmly. Bring your gloves, clippers, and yard tools.

Newsletters are a regular publication of the Wilkes East Neighborhood Association. They are hand-delivered to over 1,500 residences and businesses in our area 3 times per year, timed to correspond with our general meetings.
Got a story or tip to share?
Wilkes East residents are encouraged to submit articles and tips for the newsletter. Articles should be limited to 300 words and may be subject to editing. Send by email to chair@wilkeseastna.org. Deadline for submission is three weeks prior to publication.
Volunteers Needed
Newsletters are hand-delivered to Wilkes East residents and businesses by neighborhood volunteers. There are usually routes that need delivery people. Routes are small and many. We can always use your help. To volunteer contact chair@wilkeseastna.org.
