Zimmerman House Tours: Vases and Valentines: Sat, Jan 18, 2020 12PM-4PM
Vases and Valentines
When: Sat, Jan 18, 2020 12PM-4PM |
The historic Zimmerman House was built in 1874 and was home to three generations of the Zimmerman family. Their furnishings and personal articles remain in this two-story Victorian home, with nine rooms open to the public.
Our “Vases and Valentines” exhibit is now open. We are pairing the valentines with vases, and these vary from Depression Glass to Carnivale Glass to pottery from Roseville, Hull and van Briggle. This is the first time we’ve pulled the vases in the collection into an exhibit and many of these have rarely been out of storage.
We’ll have the contents of a traveling trunk found in the house, which belonged to Isobel’s uncle, Andrew McCall, on exhibit for just a few more months.
We are open the third Saturday of every month from noon - 4:00 pm. Admission is free, with donations welcome and appreciated.

Migration Brewing Opens Pub in West Gresham
Migration Brewing, Gresham. Click to enlarge |
Focus on CommunityMigration Brewing started as a neighborhood brewpub in NE Portland in 2010. They grew that business with a focus on making a great product and supporting the community and clientele. |
After 9 years serving the community with a venue to call home for reunions, birthdays, weddings, baby showers and all life events in between it was time to grow their brand and find a second home.
After searching all the cities surrounding Portland, Gresham proved to be especially attractive. In particular, the City's capacity to get a large project permitted and complete on time, a building that suited their needs, and a location that still maintains the feel and engagement of a small town. "Gresham is one of the friendliest and tight knit communities you could imagine and that is exactly what spoke to our brand" said Colin Rath of Migration Brewing. "For a company that prides itself on being community oriented we felt Gresham was the perfect fit".
The 3,000-square foot pub with plenty of open seating has been host to multiple Gresham high school reunions, fundraiser's supporting Gresham nonprofit's, and community causes. Plus all Gresham teachers get a discount simply by showing their id badge. "We didn't choose Gresham simply because we found a building that suited our needs, we chose Gresham because it's a community we wanted to be a part of." said Rath.
Migration Brewing serves a large selection of house brewed beers, wine, appetizers, soups, salads, pizza and calzone. Open daily. Sun-Thur 11AM-9PM, Fri-Sat 11AM-10PM. 18188 NE Wilkes Rd, Gresham. |

Smart Holiday Cooks Keep Grease Out of the Sink. Tips to Keep Your Holiday Flowing
Keeping cooking greases out of the kitchen sink can prevent clogged sewer pipes and expensive repairs
|
Cooking a turkey? Love gravy? This holiday season, and every day of the year, help keep Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) out of the public sewer system.
When grease is washed down the sink it cools and sticks to the insides of sewer pipes. Over time, the build-up can block pipes completely. Avoid this by never pouring fats, oils or grease down the sink or toilet. The result may save you from expensive repairs to fix a clogged sewer pipe or a raw sewage backup.
Freeze the Grease, Save the Drain
Put your grease in a container, let it harden, then dispose of it in your garbage can. If you have children or pets and hot grease may be dangerous, freeze the grease in the freezer and then toss in the garbage.
Cautionary tip: Garbage disposals don't help with oil and grease. Products such as detergents that claim to dissolve grease may pass it down the line and cause problems elsewhere.
Free Grease Kit
This do-it-yourself kit includes a grease scraper and a plastic lid that fits multiple-sized metal cans. Instructions in English and Spanish. Call 503-618-2100 to have a grease kit mailed while supplies last.
