You're invited to attend a free spring bird class and learn to identify year-round residents arriving in our yards and parks.
Spring brings thousands of migrating birds to our region; some stay to nest and others pass through. Get ready for great spring birding action with this crash course in identifying spring migrants and summer breeders.
Metro naturalist James Davis will show slides, play some easy bird songs and simplify what seems like a confusing variety of birds to many beginners.

Free Workshop
Learn how to build your own rain garden! We’ll explore the critical role rain gardens can play in urban stream restoration, and how they add beautiful landscaping to your yard at the same time.
You will learn how to assess your site to determine the best location and size, calculate impervious surfaces, determine soil suitability, choose appropriate plants, and how to maintain your new rain garden. You will also receive a comprehensive manual that guides you through all the steps in constructing your rain garden. Where possible, workshop includes a short tour of a nearby rain garden.

Come tour Historic Downtown Gresham, and learn about its historic buildings and homes, historic graves and trees, some historic local figures, and about the shops that used to line Main Ave. Tours weave throughout Historic Downtown Gresham, are fast paced, and will cover around a mile of mostly flat level ground.
Tours leave at 11:00AM sharp, rain or shine, and are free. Donations are always accepted and much appreciated. Parking is available in the lot behind the museum.

Join us for a free workshop focusing on Early Detection Rapid Response (EDRR) for invasive weeds. Learn to identify these invaders and where to report them before they become a problem.

Learn to Naturescape!
Naturescaping is the practice of designing (or redesigning) your landscape so that it reduces water use and decreases stormwater runoff while saving you time, money and energy. This introductory workshop introduces the core concepts of naturescaping, and also explores:
- pollution prevention through the reduction/elimination of chemical use
- how native plants naturally resist pests & tolerate drought conditions while attracting native birds, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators to your garden
- basic site planning principals, and many other great natural gardening & design tips
Even if you decide to enlist the help of a contractor, you’ll have the framework to make decisions and effectively communicate the vision you have for your yard. Class will visit a nearby naturescaped project to see design principles in action. You’ll receive a comprehensive workbook and even a free native plant to help you get started.

Birds of Prey Lecture
Hawks, eagles and falcons have always fascinated people. Metro naturalist James Davis will discuss how to tell these groups of raptors apart and the key points for identifying the most common species in Oregon. You will also learn about the natural history of birds of prey and the amazing adaptations of these birds for catching and killing their prey.
In addition to slides, there will be stuffed study skins of the most common species for up-close looks. This class will get you primed for the Metro's Raptor Road Trip Feb 9th on Sauvie Island, or any outings of your own.

American Heart Association CPR/AED Training taught by Gresham Fire Fighters. Seats are limited and will be filled on a first come first served basis. Registration is required. There is a $10.00 non-refundable registration fee for this class. The training is provided free of charge and students can take home a class workbook if they choose to.
