Round-trip travel: 28 miles
Distance: 3.5 to 4 miles
Difficulty: Easy
Elevation gain: Minimal
Suggested donation per rider: $3
Trail condition: Mostly packed dirt and sidewalk
After leaving Gresham City Hall, well park at the Safeway on Woodstock Boulevard and 45th Street and use their rest rooms. Then well walk a few blocks to Reed Lake below the college and hike through a nature preserve, where the entire trail is packed dirt. Since it may be muddy after a rain, sturdy hiking shoes are recommended. A walking stick may help as well, since there is some up and down.
Please note that this walk through the Crystal Springs Garden is on a Monday, when the $5 per-person entry fee is waived. Once we arrive at the garden, we can go our separate ways for about 45 minutes or so, and then we can re-group at the entry gate and continue. There is only one way into and out of the park, so we should have no problem. Well discuss it there and make a final decision.
Afterwards, well walk through some of the local neighborhoods, which have some nice architecture and a Save The Giants initiative (more on that when we get there). As usual, bring water and snacks to enjoy prior to having lunch at the Double Mountain Tap Room on Woodstock Boulevard.
For more information about this hike please contact Steve or Micky Solcz at 503-367-8483 or steve.solcz@gmail.com.
Senior Healthy Hikers asks that participants be 50 or older. A couple wishing to hike is welcome if one member of the couple is 50 or better.
