New Friday shows include a matinee at 1 p.m. and an evening show at 6 p.m.

Admission is only $5.
MHCC students (with valid ID) and children 17 and under are $2.

All shows are presented under a realistic representation of the night sky, featuring the latest galactic, stellar and planetary images.

The Sky Theater is wheelchair accessible.

Growing veggies on a budget

Learn low-cost ways to build healthy soil, plan your growing space, choose your crops, care for your growing garden, and harvest your bounty.

Seed to Supper is a free five-week beginning gardening course that gives adult gardeners the tools they need to successfully grow a portion of their own food on a limited budget.

  • When: Thursdays, Feb. 16 through March 16, 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm
  • Where: St. Aidans Episcopal Church, 17405 NE Glisan Street. Classes are taught indoors with possible visits to the Nadaka Community Garden.
  • Who: Open to adult participants interested in learning how to garden on a budget.

Details: Please plan to attend all five classes.

Participants will receive a free gardening book, seeds and other goodies as available.

Ever wonder about that slow-moving channel of water running through Gresham, Fairview, and NE & N Portland? This free hands-on workshop will explore the unique character, challenges and opportunities of the Columbia Slough and its Watershed. Open to everyone interested in learning more about the Columbia Slough Watershed.

  • Youll learn about soil & sediment in relation to water quality, how the Slough has changed over time, and what that means for fish, wildlife, people and businesses.
  • Explore Macroinvertebrates (water bugs) that live in the Slough. Simulate and predict aquifer conditions with an interactive groundwater model.
  • Test water quality through dissolved oxygen, temperature, and PH levels.

Note:

Pre-registration is required for this free workshop.
Light refreshments will be provided. Suitable for adults and teens 14 & up.

Did you notice you only see Turkey Vultures in the metropolitan area in the spring and summer? Thats because they migrate to warmer climates in the winter, but its time to welcome them back.

Welcome Back Vulture Day is filled with fun and educational activities:

  • Meet Ruby, Portland Audubons Turkey Vulture, up close (along with many of Audubons other education birds)
  • Compare your wingspan to that of a California Condor
  • Make a crafted vulture and mask
  • Play Upchuck Chuck!
  • Learn fun vulture facts
  • Find out the differences between Old and New World vultures
  • Discover why vultures are important

Were lucky to still have good populations of Turkey Vultures in Oregon. Around the world vultures are facing hazards in the wild and their numbers are dwindling. As Natures Recyclers, they play an important role in reducing diseaseand its up to us to help

Join the work party and help us weed, plant flowers and create safe habitat for pollinators. The Water Resources Division is preparing a Pollinator Peace garden for spring education talks on pollinators.

Rain or shine

  • Bring your gardening gloves.
  • Bring a snack and water bottle.
  • Refreshments and tools provided.

The garden is the fenced area, located near the futsal court.
