Share Your Experience

Join us as the City hosts "Healthy Eating Active Living" its second community forum for you to share your thoughts on how the built environment helps and/or hinders the ability to have access to healthy foods and active living opportunities.

The purpose of the forum is to provide a venue to hear the community's thoughts on what helps and hinders their access to healthy food options and physical activity. We'll also be sharing best practices from other jurisdictions on how to address obesity through the built environment (land uses, parks, transportation). The forum will also include information on the Gresham Transportation System Plan update and the Metro-led project East Metro Connections.

This community forum will be held in English and Spanish. Translators will be available to assist.

What is Healthy Eating Active Living?

Healthy Eating, Active Living (HEAL) promotes equitable access and opportunities to healthy, affordable food and to active living. It examines how health may be affected by the built environment by promoting healthier food options and physical activity through daily routines.

Come Visit Zimmerman House Museum and Gardens

Oregon Storytellers with a Local Lens

Right in Wilkes East Neighborhood’s backyard, near Sandy Boulevard and 171st, sits a white, Victorian house surrounded by lush grass and beautiful flower gardens. Have you ever noticed this beauty while driving by?

If you’ve always been curious or it’s been a long time since you’ve visited, let us introduce you to the Zimmerman House Museum and Gardens. This slice of Oregon heritage is run by ECHO – East County Historical Organization (your local historical society) and they have big plans to reinvigorate this Gresham Park.

ECHO’s new board has goals to make this former dairy farm into a thriving place of learning and an event space for the community. They are currently developing plans to add a paved driveway with designated parking spaces, ADA access to the gardens, and create an area for outdoor gatherings. Even though updates will be occurring, plans will hold true to the home’s designation as a historic property on the National Register.

The group is also redefining their educational mission for the museum, so be on the lookout for new exhibits, community events, and stop by for guided tours with expanded content. To start off, they are hosting their first archeological survey in the park on Saturday, September 30. They hope to rediscover some of the home’s former outbuildings like a bunkhouse, outhouses, and more. The public is welcome to join in.

Nadaka Happenings, Completion of the Park

Nadaka Happenings, Completion of the Park. Grand Opening Celebration, Sat Apr 04, 2015 10AM-12PM. Find out what we're been up to, upcoming events and activities, and how to volunteer! Info here!

By Monica McAllister, Nadaka Nature Park Coordinator

What We Have Been Up To!
The year 2015 is off to a great start at Nadaka Nature Park and Garden. The final stages of the park’s natural play area and community garden are progressing beautifully. As of February, Verde has finished seeding the eco-lawn and planting of hundreds of native plants. In addition, ADA ramps into the play area, wooden benches, and berry trellises around the community garden have been completed. The parking lot of St. Aidan’s has recently received some much need TLC and has been partially paved with gravel to make it more accessible to the nature play area.

A big thanks to Alpha High School students who planted over 400 hundred plants in the rain gardens along NE Pacific Street February 23rd. The projected was funded by Federal CDBG funds and will be a great tool for teaching the community about how rain gardens work to improve the health of our watershed. Alpha High School will also be visiting Nadaka every other Tuesday to do stewardship and educational activities starting March 3rd. If you are in the area come and let them know they are doing a great job.
