Friends of Trees has been planting trees in communities for 20 years, helping to reduce air pollution and stormwater runoff, as well as beautifying our neighborhoods.
New Trees for Our Neighborhood
This winter, Friends of Trees is coming to Gresham and conducting a tree planting in the Wilkes East and Kelly Creek neighborhoods. Get neighborhoods map!
In the Wilkes East Neighborhood 3 new Scarlet Oak trees will be planted at the south end of Columbia View Park. These trees were purchased by the City of Gresham thru Friends of Trees who will be assisting with the planting. Volunteers will be needed at Columbia View Park for the planting. Note: time change
UPDATE: The Nadaka Nature Park tree planting event is cancelled. It is rescheduled for March 27, 2010. Watch website for details.

A delightful 1874 Victorian farmhouse
Take a step back into history at the Zimmermann House, a Victorian era farmhouse, built in 1874 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This beautiful farmhouse is a perfect reflection of typical Columbia River dairy farm life in the late 1800s. The Zimmerman Heritage Farm is a unique cultural education and recreational resource that is being created for the benefit of the public on a 5.98-acre historic site in Gresham, Oregon. New Trees for Neighborhoods!
This winter, Friends of Trees is coming to Gresham and conducting a tree planting in the Wilkes East and Kelly Creek neighborhoods. Get neighborhoods map!
In the Wilkes East Neighborhood 4 new trees will be planted in Nadaka Nature Park, and additional trees will be planted at the south end of Columbia View Park. The trees for Nadaka Nature Park will be purchased thru a Metro Nature in Neighborhood grant obtained by Wilkes East Neighborhood Association and Friends of Nadaka. Volunteers will be needed at both Nadaka and Columbia View for these plantings.

Be prepared to get a little dirty and to have fun by supporting and volunteering with Friends of Nadaka and Wilkes East Neighborhood Association in their efforts to restore this natural area by removing invasive underbrush and ivy. We will also be planting 12 new small trees, 65 shrubs and 150 herbs.
UPDATE (11-11-2009) : Join us, the Concordia University Basketball Team, H.B. Lee Middle School Leadership students, and your fellow neighbors for this special event with the Columbia Slough Watershed Council. Refreshments needed: Persons interested in donating baked goods or refreshments for this event are urged to contact leedayfield@wilkeseastna.org |
Rain or Shine! Come dressed for weather and help improve Nadaka Nature Park. Bring working gloves & a water bottle if you have them. Volunteer as long as you can.
Coffee, juice, water & refreshments provided by Wilkes East Neighborhood.
No pre-registration required. Volunteers younger than 18 will need a signed waiver (available at the event).

Celebrate Parks and Recreation Month and the spirit of volunteerism during Gresham's Big Service Day. Gresham Parks is hosting volunteer projects throughout the city to celebrate and improve Gresham’s parks, trails, community gardens, and natural areas.
Volunteer opportunities include:
- removing invasive plants
- picking up litter
- laying down mulch
- Light refreshments will be provided. Reservations are requested, but not needed.

On Sunday, April 5th from 9AM to 3PM Friends of Nadaka will be holding another cleanup at Nadaka Nature Park. Come on by, and give us a hand! Spend all day, or whatever time you can. Dress warmly. Bring your gloves, clippers, and yard tools.
About Nadaka Park
Nadaka Park is a lovely 10-acre parcel of "natural area" that includes a walking trail loop, tall trees, native plants, and a beautiful grassy meadow. Nadaka is located in the Wilkes East Neighborhood just north of NE Glisan St. The only public entrance to the park is on NE Pacific St at NE 176th Ave. Directions: from either NE 172nd Ave, or NE 181st Ave, take NE Pacific St to NE 176th Ave. Parking is curbside. Enter through the main gate.
