Doing a lot of frying this Thanksgiving?
New Seasons Market is launching a program to turn leftover Thanksgiving cooking oil into clean biofuel, and raise money for Meals on Wheels at the same time.

In partnership with SeQuential Pacific Biodiesel, New Seasons Market, 1954 SE Division St, Portland (Ladd's Addition), is offering a environmentally friendly way to dispose of kitchen grease after the holiday. As a bonus, SeQuential Pacific will donate $1 to New Season’s Meals on Wheels campaign for every gallon of cooking oil collected.

Reynolds Learning Academy (RLA) is holding its annual noble tree sale at 20234 NE Halsey, north parking lot. The sale will be held 9AM to 4PM Dec.7-8 and 14-15. Trees $15, $20 over 12 feet. The sale benefits Multnomah Youth Corps and the trades program at RLA.

A Journey Back In Time...
The historic Zimmerman House was built in 1874 and was home to three generations of the Zimmerman Family. Their furnishings and personal articles remain in this two-story Victorian home, including children’s toys, games, Christmas postcards, and winter clothing. The third annual evening tours will be held on Tuesday, December 10th and December 17th from 3pm-8pm. We’ll have carols playing on the parlor piano, family recipes on exhibit and ginger snap cookies from the family recipe to take home.

Parking is extremely limited, so please consider car pooling. Please reserve the time you'd like to visit the House, and give yourself approximately 45 minutes to explore both floors of the home.

Admission is free, but the suggested donation for this special event is $5 per person 12 and older. The Coalition of Gresham Neighborhood Associations was formed to provide structure and support for the leadership of Gresham's neighborhood associations, enabling more effective cooperation among neighborhood associations in order to achieve desired outcomes. Goals of the Coalition include providing a public forum for the review and evaluation of issues and problems, providing education and information on specific areas such as land use, and providing a unified voice for the neighborhood associations.

The Coalition meets monthly on the second Tuesday at 7:00PM

A delightful 1874 Victorian farmhouse
Take a step back into history at the Zimmerman House, a Victorian era farmhouse, built in 1874 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This beautiful farmhouse is a perfect reflection of typical Columbia River dairy farm life in the late 1800s. The Zimmerman Heritage Farm is a unique cultural education and recreational resource that is being created for the benefit of the public on a 5.98-acre historic site in Gresham, Oregon.

EWww! Grease clogged pipe

After big holiday meals, no one likes doing the clean-up But if you aren't careful with leftover gravy, pan drippings and sauces a grease-clogged drain could end up costing you a bundle.

When fats, oils and grease are poured down the drain, they stick to the inside of pipes causing messy sewer backups and expensive cleanup and repair in your home.

The simple solution
Pour the grease into a can, freeze it, then toss the can in the trash.

Do your part
Grease can also plug sewer collection lines and pumps, thereby causing overflows into public areas and again possibly back up into your home. As a double whammy, the untreated wastewater may flow into streets, neighborhood storm drains and ultimately the nearest river or stream causing problems for surrounding communities and the environment.

How to Dispose of Grease at Home:

• Never pour grease down sinks or toilets
• Pour grease and oil into a can and freeze, then toss in the trash
• Throw food scraps in the garbage
• Avoid the garbage disposal

Remind family and friends - keep the grease out of the drain.

Comet ISON MHCC Planetarium website

The Sky Theater is wheelchair accessible.

Comet Fever and Comet ISON
“Comets can arouse public curiosity when they are bright and disappoint people when they don’t live up to their hype,” says Pan Hanrahan, Planetarium director. “While Comet ISON will not be the ‘Comet of the Century,’ it still has a chance to be visible to the naked eye". Comet ISON will make its closest approach to the sun on Thanksgiving morning and if it survives, may even show its tail in the blue sky just after sunrise.

There are three shows this evening, with start times at 6:00PM, 7:15PM and 8:30PM.

The Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) Planetarium opens the year with more great public shows, a move to a new night and coming soon, a state-of-the-art projection system.

Each show is presented under a realistic representation of the night sky, featuring the latest galactic, stellar and planetary images.

Visitors are encouraged to ask questions during each program. Children are welcome to attend.
