Join Your Neighbors!
We are teaming up with Friends of Trees to so some major habitat restoration work at Nadaka!

We need help removing invasive weeds and planting hundreds of young native trees and shrubs throughout the park. Please arrive by 8:45am to sign-in and enjoy some breakfast treats and coffee, tea, or hot chocolate.

We provide gloves, tools, and planting guidance. Please dress for the weather!

The Wilkes East Neighborhood is located in the northwest corner of the City of Gresham, Oregon, and is one of Gresham's sixteen neighborhoods. Wilkes East Neighborhood borders are roughly NE Sandy Blvd to the north, NE 181st Ave to the east, NE Glisan St to the south, and NE 162nd Ave to the west. Get map!.

Where: Meet at Gresham City Hall

  • Distance: 5 miles
  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Elevation gain: 800 feet
  • Trail conditions: Sidewalks, paths and staircases; some steep uphill and downhill walking
  • Round-trip travel: TriMet MAX and street car
  • Suggested donation per rider: TriMet fare required

We will take MAX from Gresham City Hall to downtown Portland, where we will transfer to the northbound streetcar to the Pearl District where the walk begins. After walking through the Pearl District, we walk uphill on Summit Avenue to climb a 160-step staircase followed by a 131-step staircase. Continuing uphill we will enter the Pittock estate and spend some time wandering the mansion grounds enjoying views of downtown Portland, the Willamette and Columbia rivers and Cascade peaks, if the weather is cooperative. We will stop for lunch at a local restaurant on the way back.

Bring snacks and water. Sturdy walking/hiking shoes are recommended.

Please purchase MAX fare before meeting at Gresham City Hall.

Senior Healthy Hikers asks that participants be 50 or older. A couple wishing to hike is welcome if one member of the couple is 50 or better.

Pets are not permitted on our hikes or walks.

The 28th Annual Spirit of Christmas tree lighting â one of the communityâs most popular events â rings in Greshamâs holiday season with a family-friendly program that includes music, photos with Santa, refreshments and the lighting of the 60-foot Ponderosa pine on the Arts Plaza.

Watch for fun activities beforehand in Historic Downtown in the afternoon leading up to the tree lighting festivities on the Arts Plaza.

3.5 miles or 7,000 steps
Visit the confluence of the Columbia and Willamette rivers and walk among the tall black cottonwoods to the Rivergate Trail and back.
Note: Relatively flat with paved and unpaved trails

Join us on another great Ten Toe Express walk throughout inner-city Portland sponsored by the Portland Bureau of Transportation. The Ten Toe Express program is a series of guided walks held Thursdays @ 6PM and Saturdays @ 9AM from May 2nd through September 14th 2019.

Each easy and informal Ten Toe Express walk explores the area neighborhood, architecture and unique history. Walk takes about 2 hours, cover 3.5 - 4.5 miles and are open to all ages and skill levels. Did we mention it's free!
