Big, old-growth trees typically have a few things in common: they grow in temperate climates with significant rainfall, they live on protected land and they are close to rivers. Oxbow Regional Park provides all of the above, and the trails we will be hiking will lead us into the heart of the old-growth forest of Douglas Fir, Western Hemlock, Big Leaf Maple, Red Alder, Black Cottonwood, and Western Red Cedar.

The beginning and end of our hike will be through the old-growth forest and, in-between, we.ll spend much of the time hiking along the Sandy River, with views of the water, sand, and perhaps even salmon jumping after a bug.

We.ll send more a detailed update, along with the driving directions, a few days prior to the hike. Hiking boots and walking sticks are recommended . especially in inclement weather. Most of the hike will be under the trees, so hats are optional, but are also recommended. Bring some snacks and water to enjoy during the hike. Our lunch will depend on the COVID-19 status. If allowed to use the picnic tables, we will. If not, we.ll tailgate. In any event, bring a nice brown bag lunch to enjoy.
