Sharing Our Cultures
Thank you for your interest in hosting a high school exchange student from our Sister City of SokCho, South Korea. This is one of our two active student exchange student programs, with SokCho sending students to the Gresham area every other year opposite of the years students from Gresham travel to SokCho. The students come during the summer break approximately July 22rd through August 5th, so there will be no interference with school. This year we are honored to have a total of 10 students (8 girls and 2 boys) and one chaperone coming. The students range in age from 12-15 years old. If a family is able to accommodate more than one student please let us know. We are willing to place up to two students in one home if there is not enough families applying.
To help make the matches between the Korean students and their American hosts, we need the attached “Host Family Application” form filled out and returned. This information is also required by the selection committee in SokCho. Additionally, because of the need to be concerned about the well-being of our visitors, we request names and contact information of two non-family character references for you and your home. We will be performing criminal background checks on all adults living in the home./
Hosting a Korean student is a wonderful way to introduce your family to the Korean Language and for the whole family to learn more about another culture. Also, for a Gresham area student interested in traveling to SokCho as an exchange student, having been a host is a plus in the selection process, though not a guarantee. To make sure that we have ample time to place the students in the best homes we are asking that all applications be in as soon as possible.
