On July 14, 2007, residents of Wilkes East came together to tidy up their homes. The three hour event resulted in two industrial sized (40 cubic yard) dumpsters being filled to capacity!
One of the dumpsters was located in the cul-de-sac of 167th Place. The operations were led by Kris Freiermuth and, Glenn and Daphne Mathew. As residents started to arrive, Glenn Mathew said, “Some of the items this year included dismantled decks and home remodeling debris. Surprisingly, at my location, we had less yard debris than our 2006 clean-up. I did observe some dumpster diving, in which Jerry Dunn recovered a bird house”.
Our Hassalo - Columbia View dumpsite (NE 169th St & NE Hassalo St at Columbia View Park) was new this year and directed by Brian and Lorraine Heerwagen. Brian said, “We had an opportunity to meet some new neighbors and a few of them just hung out and talked for awhile. It was a great chance to get to know some new people and watch neighbors get connected!”.
The day was topped off with free ice cream, which was a welcome relief on a warm summer day!
Congratulations to everyone that participated in our clean-up and a special thanks to those that organized this productive day!
