We hope you are keeping warm and trying to remember to appreciate winter's more subtle, special beauty in between the periods of rain. One way to stay warm, of course, is to keep active, and Gresham Parks has lots of activities coming up to get you out of the house and to keep the winter blahs at bay!

Gresham City Hall Community Garden Clean Up
When: Saturday, March 1st, 2008 9:00AM - 1:00PM
Where: Gresham City Hall

Ready, set, weed! Spring is right around the corner and we'd like to clean up this site preparing it for another great year. Volunteers will help weed garden beds and pathways, turn compost bins, and pick up litter around the garden.

Portland Teen Idol

Discover the next new teen talent in our area! Volunteer at Portland Teen Idol helping with set up, registering kids, and possibly judging!

Gardening at the Zimmerman House

Take a step back into history by volunteering at the Zimmermann House. This 1874 farmhouse is a perfect reflection of typical Columbia River dairy farm life in the late 1800s. Volunteers are needed to weed and prune in the garden, which will contribute to the historical site overall beauty.

Native Planting at Butler Creek
When: Saturday March 22nd, 2008 9:00AM - 1:00PM
Where: Undetermined. Call for meeting location.
The planting season is coming to an end, so come help establish a few more trees along Butler Creek. These trees will help encourage native species growth and in return, improve the creek's water quality, increase biodiversity and enhance local habitat.

Earth Day Celebration

What sounds more fun then helping little kids understand the importance of critters in nature? The Parks Earth Day booth will focus on teaching children about the importance of insects in the Parks and gardens with a critter game and critter arts and crafts from reuse materials!

Trail Project at Kelly Creek

Gresham Parks needs your help to build a new addition of trail to Kelly Creek Trail. This new trail will allow more residents of Kelly Creek Neighborhood to access and enjoy the beauty that Gresham Parks and Trails have to offer!

SOLV Down By the Riverside
at Butler Creek Invasive Removal Project
When: Saturday May 17th, 2008 9:00AM - 1:00PM

Hold it weeds! It's time to go! Volunteer to help restore Butler Creek's native landscape by volunteering at this upcoming restoration event. Volunteers will be removing ivy, holly, and blackberry from a section of the Butler Creek Trail to help ensure the preservation of future native species in Butler Creek Greenway.

Needed: Adopt-A-Park/Trail Volunteer Groups!
Do you know of a group that wants to adopt a park, trail, or open space? We need groups of volunteers to help with invasive plant removal, shrub bed/tree well maintenance, native planting, park patrolling and a number of other opportunities for various parks, trails, and open spaces throughout Gresham.
Requirement of 8 hours of volunteer service per year;commitment of one year.
