Gino Schettini, long time Capri Terrace resident, Portland restaurateur, and soccer aficionado passed away October 30, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Gino and his family moved to Portland from Rome Italy in 1993. His desire to give his new friends a taste of true Italian food led to the opening of Piazza Italia (an Italian bistro and deli located at NW 12th & Johnson in the Pearl District), where all could share in the simple pleasures of authentic Italian meals in a family-style atmosphere.
Gine is survived by Piazza Italia and all his family; co-workers; friends and patrons who helped Gino reach his goal of giving Americans a true sense of Italian atmosphere and cuisine.
The family sends many thanks to the wonderful doctors and nurses who assisted Gino along the way during this courageous battle with cancer.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a cancer research center of your choice.
