What: The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will hold an information meeting about an air quality permit application for the proposed Owens Corning Corporation plant that will manufacture rigid polystyrene foam insulation boards at a new plant located at 18456 NE Wilkes Road in Gresham Oregon.

When/Where: 6:30 pm, Thursday, November 1, 2007, Centennial High School Community Room, 3505 SE 182nd Ave., Gresham Oregon

Background: At the information meeting about the permit application there will be an opportunity to ask questions and provide comments. DEQ will note the comments and consider them while drafting the permit.

After this information meeting, DEQ will draft a proposed permit and have it available to the public for comment on November 9, 2007. DEQ will hold a public hearing about the proposed permit on December 13, 2007.

In 2005, Owens Corning proposed to manufacture a similar product using hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) at this same location in Gresham and withdrew their permit application in 2006. The current application does not request the use of this chemical.
