This is a four-mile round-trip hike, with an approximately 500-foot elevation gain. Starting from the Frog Lake trailhead parking area, we will walk 1.5 miles north on Pacific Crest Trail # 2000, under a canopy of old growth and with a gentle climb to the junction with Trail # 495. From there it is 1/2 mile to Lower Twin Lake, where we will stop to have lunch. Bring a brown bag lunch to eat while enjoying this beautiful lake.
Optional: An easy walk around the lake will add another 1/4 mile to the hike for those who want to take in additional views of this beautiful lake. After lunch and the optional walk, we will all gather and trek back to our cars for the drive back to City Hall.
Caution: Participants must have water, snacks, lunch, and proper clothing for the weather of the day. Lug-sole shoes and hiking poles are recommended.

This three-mile walk, on paved paths, begins at the "Carousel" at Riverfront Park in Salem and ends at a picnic area near the Willamette Slough. We will circle "the world" before crossing the new Peter Courtney Minto-Brown Island Bridge. It spans the Willamette River and connects with a 1,200-acre waterfowl and wildlife sanctuary. The sanctuary has a variety of habitats that support many different wildlife species. Along the way, look for rabbits, raptors, bald eagles, osprey, owls, river otters, and deer. Listen for downy, hairy and Pileated woodpeckers, the largest woodpecker in North America.
We will eat our sack lunch at the Willamette Slough picnic area. Wear comfortable walking shoes, pack a lunch, and bring water and snacks. We will park at Riverfront Park and have a car shuttle parked on the island to bring drivers back to their cars to pick up their passengers on the island.
