Spring Ahead; Daylight Saving Time Begins This Weekend, Sunday Mar 10, 2012 2AM

You know the old saying, "spring ahead, fall back"...

Spring Ahead; Daylight Saving Time Begins This Weekend, Sunday Mar 10, 2012 2AM. Info here!
Set your clocks ahead 1 hour Sunday 2AM

It's time to spring ahead!

Daylight saving time 2012 officially begins this Sunday, March 10 at 2:00AM (local time) -- remember to set your clocks ahead one hour to 3:00AM when you go to bed Saturday night.

It's also the perfect time to install a fresh battery in your smoke detectors.

About Daylight Saving Time
Daylight saving time (DST) — aka summer time is the practice of temporarily advancing clocks during the summertime so that afternoons have more daylight and mornings have less. Clocks are adjusted forward one hour near the start of spring and are adjusted backward in autumn.

Most of the United States and Canada observe DST beginning the second Sunday in March and ending the first Sunday in November -- almost two-thirds of the year.

Learn the Do's and Don'ts of Holiday Recycling

Plus, How-to Recycle Your Tree Curbside for Free!

As the holiday's draw to a close, here's a few tips for proper disposal of unwanted wrapping paper, wreaths and trees!

Holiday Recycling Questions

  • Can glossy holiday gift bags go in the blue cart?
Paper gift bags can be recycled. Tip: Usually if you can tear the paper fairly easily it will pulp up at the paper mill. Gift bags can be reused or donated to charity.
  • Can cellophane or foil wrapping paper go in the blue cart?
Non-paper wrapping material should not go in the blue roll carts. Most “foil-like” paper is metallic ink on paper and is accepted with recycling.
  • Can present ribbons be recycled in the blue cart?
Non-paper ribbons are not accepted (very few ribbons are paper-based).

Thanksgiving, A Time To Be Grateful - A Time For Sharing

Thanksgiving, A Time To Reflect - A Time For Sharing. Info here!
Serving warm food, warm smiles

Happy Thanksgiving

For most families, Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on everything you’ve been given, and be grateful for all that you have.

This year may be tough for many of us. But no matter how bad things are looking for you this year, there’s always someone who has it worse. So this year, take the time to give thanks for all that’s good in your own life -- and to give to others who may not share the same good fortune this Thanksgiving.

Give from the heart

Help brighten the holiday for someone in need.

  • Donate time or money to a local charity or food pantry
  • Donate a Thanksgiving basket to a neighbor in need
  • Volunteer at a local soup kitchen or homeless shelter
  • Deliver Thanksgiving meals to housebound seniors

Volunteer this holiday, and share the season!

Have a safe Thanksgiving weekend.
