The City of Canby has rehabilitated an old Weyerhaeuser road to make a nice trail down to the Willamette River. We will walk through a couple of wooded parks and along the paved trail between a golf course and the river, to an area where we'll see the remains of an old gantry and other structures used to unload logs. The trail is a pleasant out-and-back route. After the hike, we'll have lunch at the Backstop Bar and Grill in Canby. Bring an energy snack and water. Good walking shoes are recommended.Trail conditions: Paved and dirt trail mix, about the last half-mile before we turn around is all downhill, and uphill on the return. Otherwise the trail is fairly level. For more information about this hike please contact Dana or Doug Duvall at 970-230-6543 or danakol24@aol.com.Senior Healthy Hikers asks that participants be 50 or older. • Round-trip travel: 38 miles
  • Distance: 5 miles
  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Elevation gain: 480 feet
  • Suggested donation per rider: $4 (plus share of $5 parking fee)

We will start the hike close to the Clackamas River by the fish hatchery that raises Steelhead and Spring Chinook. We'll continue on an old logging road up through the forest to a view point area that overlooks the Clackamas River. From the view point we'll cross an off-leash dog area to a bat-viewing area, before heading down through the forest to the Rivermill Reservoir. We will continue along the river back to the parking area. Bring a sack lunch, water and snacks. Sturdy hiking shoes are recommended. If it has been rainy, hiking poles might be helpful in spots.Trail conditions: Wide trails (easy for two to walk side-by-side) and old logging road in some areas. Dirt with gravel in some areas, can be muddy. The trail is a multi-use trail also used by mountain bikes and horses. Elevation gain is a fairly steep upgrade, then levels off for a while before going down. Grade going down seems a little more gradual than the grade going up.For more information about this hike please contact Dave Tripp at 503-655-0465 or dtripp@comcast.net or Becky Tripp at 503-754-2851 or trippr2016@comcast.net.Senior Healthy Hikers asks that participants be 50 or older.
