Put Your Green On - Earth Day Recycle

The City will hold its annual free recycling event in celebration of Earth Day. The recycling event is free to Gresham and Wood Village residents (businesses may only participate in recycling fluorescents).
We will also be looking for volunteers for this year's event. Tasks may include directing traffic, handing out flyers, uploading materials from automobiles and sorting materials.

Earth Day Recycling Event
April 23 - 9AM to 2PM
Start saving those items that cannot be recycled at the curb for the annual Earth Day collection event. The event is for Gresham and Wood Village residents.

The City is working with Green Century Electronic Recycling and AccuShred to process collected items this year.

  • All hazardous waste materials (paint, aerosol cans, gas cans, needles)

  • All kitchen garbage
  • Residential yard debris and trimmings
  • Waste and recyclables collected curbside

Batteries and hazardous waste items from residences (no businesses) can be taken to the Metro Hazardous Waste Neighborhood Round Up event happening April 23 as well as other dates that may be convenient.

Join Friends of Nadaka for our SOLVE IT cleanup event to restore a healthy habitat at Nadaka Nature Park in honor of Earth Day. We will be removing invasive species such as English Ivy from the 10-acre, forested portion of the park.
Tools, gloves and light refreshments will be provided.
Dress to work in natural areas: long pants, warm clothes and closed-toe, sturdy shoes. Please bring a water bottle and a friend, and meet at the picnic shelter.

We will hike the short, paved interpretive trail on the south side of the road, then cross the road and hike the 3.5-mile trail to the top of the cliff, and circle back to the road. There are interesting geological formations, an old homestead, and there should be an abundance of wildflowers.

  • Round-trip travel: 120 miles
  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Elevation gain: 500 feet
  • Suggested donation per hiker: $12

The area is mostly exposed, so sunshade, long pants, hiking boots and a walking stick are recommended.
Bring water and a lunch to eat along the trail.

  • Elevation Gain: A deceptive 363 feet, with strenuous climbs at times

The 4Ts-Hike consists of numerous modes of transportation to downtown Portland.

  1. Train – Take the MAX from Gresham City Hall to the Oregon Zoo and ride the elevator from the deepest transit tunnel in the country up to street level.
  2. Trail – A 4.5-mile hike on the beautiful but hilly Marquam Trail to the city’s highest point at Council Crest, with a panoramic view of the city. Then on to the campus of Oregon Health and Science University.
  3. Tram – A free ride down the Portland Aerial Tram to the South Waterfront District.
  4. Trolley – A scenic ride on the Portland Street Car back to downtown where, after lunch, the MAX returns hikers to Gresham.
  • All transportation fees are covered by the Tri-Met day pass. An all-day MAX ticket is $5 (under age 65) or $2.50 (age 65 and older).
  • Walking is along steep trails that require sturdy hiking boots; dress for the weather.
  • Bring snacks and water; lunch is later at Pastini Pastaria.
  • Park at the City Hall MAX Station and purchase the MAX ticket in advance so the group can board the train on time shortly after 9 a.m.

Senior Healthy Hikers asks participants be age 50 or older. A couple may hike if one member is 50 or better.
Pets are not permitted on hikes or walks.
