A delightful 1874 Victorian farmhouse
Take a step back into history at the Zimmerman House, a Victorian era farmhouse, built in 1874 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This beautiful farmhouse is a perfect reflection of typical Columbia River dairy farm life in the late 1800s. The Zimmerman Heritage Farm is a unique cultural education and recreational resource that is being created for the benefit of the public on a 5.98-acre historic site in Gresham, Oregon.
Open house and tours are available the third Saturday of each month 10AM-3PM.

Join Audubon Society of Portland's Steve Engel and Jim Labbe, 9:00AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 26, for a morning bird walk along newly opened segments of the Gresham-Fairview Trail in West Gresham. We'll take a leisurely stroll along new trail sections taking in views of Grant Butte and the waterfowl in the surrounding wetlands. We'll talk about recent efforts to support parks, trails, and improved access to nature in East County while enjoying some of our local avian fauna. If there is time we'll also visit Gresham Woods via the Springwater Corridor and do some birding along Johnson Creek.

Be prepared to get a little dirty and to have fun by supporting and volunteering with Friends of Nadaka and Wilkes East Neighborhood Association in their efforts to restore this natural area by removing invasive underbrush and ivy.

Rain or Shine! Come dressed for weather and help improve Nadaka Nature Park. Bring working gloves & a water bottle if you have them. Volunteer as long as you can.

Coffee, juice, water & refreshments provided by Wilkes East Neighborhood.

No pre-registration required. Volunteers younger than 18 will need a signed waiver (available at the event).

Improve water quality and wildlife habitat at home by building your own rain garden, disconnecting your downspouts and gardening with native plants. This free rain garden workshop with City staff includes classroom discussion, hands-on activities, rain garden tour, free raffle and refreshments. Space is limited – call or email to register. The city is offering $200 rain garden grants for homeowners who build their own – to be eligible, staff must confirm safety of your site.

Loaves & Fishes Centers "The Meals-On-Wheels People" will open a new senior nutrition site in the Rockwood neighborhood this summer and is seeking input from the community at a meeting. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, March 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gresham Salvation Army, 473 SE 194th. Lunch will be provided.

Project Partners
The Rockwood Loaves & Fishes Center will be located in the new Rockwood Community Building now under construction at 124 NE 181st in Gresham (Get Map). Community partners involved in the project include El Programa Hispano, Mt. Hood Community College Head Start, LifeWorks Northwest, Metropolitan Family Service, Wallace Medical Concern and Human Solutions.

Draft Development Code changes are available on the Planning Commission web page. These have been updated since the Feb. 9 version.

The Planning Commission will review and discuss the Code amendments at its March 14 meeting (the public is invited).

The Code changes are addressing the following issues:

  • Height and bulk of new homes
  • Height transitions (between single-family homes and more intense uses such as commercial uses, apartments or condominiums)
  • Flag lots (homes built behind other homes)
  • Buffering and screening between developments
  • How small-lot subdivisions are reviewed
  • Quality/appearance of fences along streets
